Toby’s First Food

Toby recently had his first food – banana! He loved it. Since then, he’s also had baked sweet potato, which was also a hit. We’re looking forward to trying more new foods soon!

Doctor Visit and Toby’s Sleep

Monday was Audrey and Toby’s well-baby visits (2 year visit for Audrey and 6 month visit for Toby). Both are doing well! Audrey, at 2 years and 2 months, is 23 pounds. Toby, at 6.5 months, is 15 pounds, 14 ounces. I looked back at old records and on Audrey’s first birthday, she weighed 16 pounds, 2 ounces. That’s only 4 ounces more than Toby weighs right now. Crazy. The doctor was impressed that Toby is already crawling and pulling himself up to his knees. She said that Audrey’s heart murmur is really noticeable now, but that wasn’t news to me. The doctor did refer Audrey to an allergist because of her food allergies. I’m not looking forward to that visit, since they’ll do the whole back scratch skin test. Poor kid is going to be miserable that day. Audrey got a HIB shot and Toby got a DTaP. They both yelped at the initial injection but were fine within a minute or two. Brave babies!

Toby’s first night in his crib was last night and it went remarkably well, considering how awful things were with Audrey when we moved her to the crib. At 8:15, I put him in his PJs, nursed him until he was drowsy but awake, and then carried him upstairs and put him in the crib with the ocean waves sound machine on. He fussed/moaned/wiggled around for about 30 minutes. I sat in my office chair next to the crib with my iPhone and shushed/soothed/patted him. He fell asleep on his belly, but I wasn’t going to try to move him. He slept until 1:30. I got up, nursed him, and put him back down. He fussed for about five minutes and fell asleep. He woke up again at 5:00. Since it was so close to the time Akiva, Audrey, and I get up for the day (5:45), I just brought him downstairs to the living room, nursed him on the couch, and he dozed in my lap until 6:30. Yay! I hope this is a sign of things to come and that we won’t have the battles we did with Audrey.

New Necklaces

It is so hard to get good pictures of these kids lately. They both move so much.

Anyway, my mom bought both of them amber necklaces from Inspired by Finn. Aren’t they cute?!

Cardiology Update

Audrey saw the cardiologist yesterday for another echo and EKG. Last time, she refused to let them do the echo so the worry was that if she didn’t cooperate this time, she would need another sedated echo. Fortunately, she did great this time! I laid down with her on the bed and we watched some TV and she barely moved. The tech said that she was really impressed with how calm Audrey was.

She was a little less patient for the EKG but did allow it to be done. And after that, we saw the cardiologist. He delivered the great news that her heart condition is stable! He sees no reason to proceed to surgery at this point. Unless she has other symptoms arise, we’ll go back in 6 months for another echo and EKG. Yay!

Status Update

I haven’t updated much since Toby’s hospitalization mostly because we’ve all been sick over here. We had colds, got over them, and now we have some kind of mega-cold/flu. I have a cough, fever, and sinus congestion. Akiva had the same thing but got over it rather quickly. Audrey has a fever of 101.5 right now and looks pretty miserable. Toby has a mild fever and is extra fussy.

However, Toby is now crawling! He has been scooting/creeping for about a week but today, he crawled properly. Audrey has one of her 2nd year molars coming in. My mom bought them both necklaces from Inspired by Finn yesterday, so hopefully when those arrive, it’ll help.

Until then, we’re struggling through with coughs, fever, and fussies. Such is the life with babies!
